Piikani RCMP seek man for alleged dangerous driving, near-miss with officer

The RCMP is asking for your help in finding a man who allegedly committed a series of driving-related offences.

At approximately 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, the Piikani RCMP says an officer tried to conduct a traffic stop when a driver reportedly fled at excessive speeds.

Upon locating the man a second time, he allegedly drove intentionally towards the RCMP cruiser, swerving at the last second to avoid contact.

The RCMP claims the suspect has a history of fleeing from police and driving in a dangerous manner, as has a Canada-wide driving prohibition.

“His disregard for other users of the road is a large concern for RCMP,” reads a media release from the Piikani RCMP.

Shaine Smith, 33, of Lundbreck, is charged with two counts of driving while prohibited as well as one count each of flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and breaching probation.

He is described as 5’10”, 170 pounds, and has brown hair and blue eyes.

It is believed that Smith is in possession fo a 2004 gold-coloured Chevrolet Malibu with the Alberta license plate BWV 8504.
