LETHBRIDGE, AB – Local schools are stepping up to support a community food bank.

Catholic Central High School (CCH) is spearheading a partnership with schools in both the Holy Spirit Catholic School Division and the Lethbridge School Division that embraces the power of sport and community involvement.

A soccer tournament will take place May 31 and June 1, 2024, with the community invited to watch the action and donate to the Interfaith Food Bank.

“This is an opportunity to bring our students, schools and community together for an incredible cause,” says Mallory Kristjanson, CCH staff soccer coach.

“We had an overwhelming student body express their desire to get soccer up and running and we immediately wanted to ensure we could make this dream come true,” she adds.

“We are coming together to highlight the students’ love for soccer while also our students desire to give back to the community. CCH is proud to lead and spearhead this opportunity where we will be hosting a tournament welcoming our community to come on out and support our youth.”

Joining CCH for the cause are Chinook High School, Winston Churchill High School, Immanuel Christian School and École la Vérendrye.

Officials say one major benefit of the initiative is that no student will be prohibited from playing. Every single student that wants to play will be able to take to the pitch.

The tournament will take place at the CCH West campus.

Game times will be posted to the CCH Instagram page.
