LETHBRIDGE, AB – Some areas in southern Alberta can brace for heavy rainfall over the next couple of days.

Environment Canada has issued rainfall warnings for several communities in the region, including Lethbridge, Milk River, Taber, Medicine Hat, and Brooks.

The weather forecaster says rain will begin Monday afternoon and continue through Tuesday night.

“Widespread rainfall totals of 50 to 70 mm are likely. Locally higher amounts of 80 mm or more are possible,” reads the warning from Environment Canada.

Heavy downpours such as these have the potential to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

The wet weather will likely taper off on Wednesday.

More details on weather alerts in Canada can be found on the Environment Canada website.
