CROWSNEST PASS, AB – A medical clinic in Blairmore has received recognition for the work of its team members.

The Alberta Rural Health Professions Action Plan (RhPAP) has named the Crowsnest Medical Clinic team as the 2024 recipient of the Rhapsody Healthcare Heroes Award.

This is one of two Rhapsody Awards presented every year to “an outstanding healthcare team and physician that have made long-term positive impacts in their rural communities”.

Despite staffing challenges, RhPAP says the Crowsnest Medical Clinic team works to ensure every patient and visitor has access to reliable and trustworthy care through 24-hour emergency services, care in-clinic, free mental health service, a women’s health clinic and walk-in program, among other services helping the community of over 5,000.

Officials note that 13 letters of support were submitted as part of the nomination process, including eight from community organizations and five from clinical patients.

In addition to serving the community, the Crowsnest Medical Clinic is also a University of Calgary (U of C) teaching clinic. In 2022, the facility was selected as the best rural education site of the year by U of C students and staff.

“The team at the Crowsnest Medical Clinic embody what it means to give back to the community through volunteerism outside of their busy schedules. Many staff members are active on community boards of directors and with local sport and recreation clubs,” reads a release from RhPAP.

Officials add the clinic also sponsors local fundraisers including the Crowsnest Food Bank ‘Coldest Night’ and the Crowsnest Pass Hospital Health Foundation charity golf tournament.

The Rhapsody Awards selection committee is comprised of a physician, healthcare professional and community member representing rural healthcare in Alberta.

The Crowsnest Medical Clinic will be celebrated at an appreciation event and award presentation on June 6, 2024.
