Sod turning marks start of development on new park in Standoff

STANDOFF, AB – Before the rain hit, a sod turning ceremony happened in southern Alberta.

On Monday, May 6, 2024, a sod turning officially marked the kickoff to the development and construction of the Kainai Community Parks & Sports Fields. The site is located near the Blood Tribe Multi-Purpose Building in Standoff.

Officials say once completed, the park will include amenities like baseball diamonds, track and soccer fields, a water park and a skateboard park, in addition to the Kainai Twin Rinks facility that is currently under construction.

Representatives from the Blood Tribe leadership, Blood Tribe Recreation & Parks department, Standoff Community Committee, St. Mary’s Construction and Hasegawa Engineering attended Monday’s ceremony.
