Hurricanes make 15 selections in 2024 WHL Prospects Draft
LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes have their newest batch of prospects after the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft on Thursday, May 9, 2024.
In the first round of the draft, the Hurricanes selected forward Tyden Lafournaise from the Winnipeg Bruins U15 AAA Gold team. Lafournaise had an incredible season with the squad, scoring 66 goals and adding 60 assists for 126 points in just 32 games.
For their next pick, the Hurricanes addressed the blue line with 6’2 defenceman Reid Soper. The Edmonton native suited up for both the Northern Alberta Xtreme U15 and U17 Prep teams this past season, and was a sturdy presence on the blue line.
In the third round, the Hurricanes drafted Edge U15 Prep goaltender Leif Oaten. Oaten put up a 2.9 goals against average and a 9.14 save percentage this past year for the school. He also suited up for the Airdrie Xtreme in the 2023 Alberta U15 AAA Provincials, and posted a stellar 1.84 GAA and .928 save percentage in four games.
