Weekend trade show in Lethbridge to highlight importance of sports

LETHBRIDGE, AB – If you are a fan of sports, you might want to check out an event happening in the city this weekend.

The Lethbridge Sport Council hosts SportFest 2024, a free and interactive trade show for sport, recreation, fitness, health, nutrition and physical literacy.

Local sports organizations and businesses will come together to highlight their different programs and services. The event on Saturday will also give people the chance to try out a variety of sports and activities.

There will be demonstrations, interactive booths and four ‘Come Try It’ zones, on synthetic ice, turf, court floor, and mats. Additionally, the event will feature a bike rodeo, a Roving Gym and much more.

The bike rodeo is where children can learn the rules of the road to help them cycle safely. Bikes and helmets will be provided, with members of the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) on hand to help participants learn how to be safe.

CALM BEFORE THE FEST

A new initiative this year will take place an hour before SportFest starts.

Officials say ‘Calm Before the Fest’ will allow families and individuals to experience the event with fewer distractions, offering a more quiet atmosphere. The council says, “This time is ideal for neurodivergent individuals and others who may find the crowds overwhelming.”

There will be over 30 exhibitors at SportFest.

SportFest is the one-stop-shop for families to sample a variety of sports and interact directly with sport organizations,” says Susan Eymann, executive director of the Lethbridge Sport Council.

“In past years, families have stayed much longer than they anticipated because of the number of sports that were available to try.”

The event is on Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Servus Sport Centre. More details are available at the SportFest website.
