Diabetes Canada to host fundraising and donation event in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Diabetes Canada is holding its Drive Up and Donate event this weekend.

This Saturday and Sunday, May 18-19, 2024, the organization is asking Lethbridge residents to donate gently used clothing and small household items.

Since the initiative began in 2020, Canadians have donated nearly half-a-million pounds of clothing and small household items. The donations reportedly help send kids with type 1 diabetes to D-Camps and to fund diabetes research, as well as to keep the items out of landfills.

Sean Shannon, president and CEO of National Diabetes Trust, expressed his gratitude toward Canadians’ generosity.

“We are grateful that Canadians continue to support Diabetes Canada and are so enthusiastic about the ‘Drive Up and Donate’ initiative,” he says.

“These nationwide clothing donation collection events are an easy and great way to give back to your community and help reduce textiles and small household items going to landfills.”

The drive will be on from 9:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m. at the Canadian Tire at 2720 Fairway Road South.

Last year’s drive collected over 94,000 pounds of items, and the organization hopes to reach one-million pounds this year.
