LETHBRIDGE, AB – As the weather gets warmer, patios are going to start popping up around downtown Lethbridge.

The City’s annual patio and parklet program is back for 2024, which they say helps businesses transform streets and sidewalks into spaces for people and not just vehicles.

One of the businesses that has taken advantage of the program is Umami Shop, and co-owner Sven Roeder says it has been a huge success for them.

“It brings a fresh, modern look to downtown. People really look forward to it, with office workers wanting to sit outside to enjoy their lunch, socialize and network. It’s great.”

In order to apply for a patio, the business must have a minimum of two-thirds of neighbouring block facing businesses sign off in support of the parklet.

Applicants can apply for the permit on the City of Lethbridge website.
