Last phase of bike lane construction to start on 7 Street South

May 24, 2024 | 3:35 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Residents are advised of some more construction coming up in the downtown area next week.

Officials say construction will resume on 7 Street South from 4 Avenue to 7 Avenue in order to connect the bike lanes downtown to the 7 Avenue bike boulevard and city-wide cycling network.

The work is planned to start on Monday, May 27, 2024.

The City of Lethbridge says it should take about four weeks to complete. It will include:

  • Closing 7 Street South between 6 Avenue and 7 Avenue. This is scheduled from May 27 to 28 and will see asphalt patching work. Local traffic will be allowed in the area.
  • Concrete work at the intersection of 7 Street and 5 Avenue is scheduled for the week of May 27 (some removal work has already begun). This will also include parking lot repairs and asphalt re-surfacing to the two angle parking areas on 7 Street immediately south of the 5 Avenue intersection. The City says a full road closure is not expected, but there will be slight lane reductions in the area and a temporary loss of parking. The work will be sequenced throughout the week.
  • Finishing protected bike lanes on 7 Street between 4 and 6 avenues.
  • Some minor repairs along the existing routes.
  • Road line painting work. This is scheduled for mid to late June and will include green ‘sharrows’, indicating a shared driving lane for bicycles and motor vehicles in some areas.

More details about the project are available at the City of Lethbridge WebMap.
