MEDICINE HAT, AB – Police have placed a man behind bars following a reported incident in Medicine Hat.

On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, the Medicine Hat Police Service (MHPS) was called to the downtown area of 5 Ave SE.

A woman told police she was walking to her place of employment when she was allegedly physically and sexually assaulted by an unknown man.

The suspect reportedly pushed her into a doorway, assaulted her and temporarily restrained her.

The woman was able to flee.

Officers searched the area and interviewed witnesses, quickly identifying and arresting a suspect.

The 28-year-old man, of No Fixed Address, was released from custody. The MHPS says it later learned that he had also been identified as a suspect in an unrelated physical assault and was arrested again a short time later.

The suspect remains in custody and is awaiting another bail hearing.
