MEDICINE HAT, AB – An advocacy group in Medicine Hat is protesting what they believe to be “unacceptable” policies by Alberta’s premier.

Alberta Wins: Act, Respond, Educate (AWARE) held a protest outside of Danielle Smith’s constituency office for Brooks-Medicine Hat Saturday afternoon.

The group was calling to attention the proposed Alberta Pension Plan and the possible withdrawal from the Canada Pension Plan. Activists left sticky notes, chalk drawings and washable marker notes for officials.

Organizer Michelle Sauve said the protest is meant to educate and ensure voices are heard. She believes that the proposed pension bills could be a hot-button issue for the next provincial election.

“I think what we’re seeing is that people are fed up, and people want to be heard,” Sauve said.

“Although the election is a long way away, we want to get that message out to this current government that a lot of their policies are not acceptable.”

The rally had over 20 participants, with drivers showing their support by honking their horns.

According to Sauve, rallies have been held across the province in the last couple of days and are expected to continue.

Sauve said that AWARE will be visible in the community, including a Pride rally at the end of this month.
