Police investigating weekend stabbing in downtown Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) is investigating after a man was stabbed in a downtown altercation.

On Sunday, June 9, 2024, LPS responded to Chinook Regional Hospital after staff reported a male had attended the emergency room with stab wounds.

Police launched an investigation, and found that two 17-year-old males were riding scooters downtown when they were confronted by a group of people at the intersection of 7 Street and 1 Avenue South.

Police say a verbal altercation escalated to a physical confrontation and a 17-year-old male was stabbed by an unknown male in the group.

The victim was taken to the hospital by his friend, where he was treated for serious, but non-life threatening injuries. The subjects left the area on foot, walking toward Galt Gardens.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
