Bow Island cabinet shop destroyed by fire hoping to rebuild soon, still able to operate

BOW ISLAND, AB – The owner of a cabinet shop in Bow Island destroyed by a fire hopes to rebuild as soon as insurance is figured out.

The Hiebert Cabinets and Woodwork building located by Highway 3 was in place for about 17 years prior to the fire last Thursday.

For now, owner John Hiebert is utilizing space at his two other businesses, Jade Homes and Jasper Homes, as well as at a Hutterite colony.

That will allow them to continue their cabinet operations as a temporary solution, Hiebert told CHAT News.

The security systems at the shop had alerted the general manager to the fire and authorities were contacted immediately after the fire started in an area of the shop where they board doors.

Hiebert said inspectors have told him that they believe the fire may have been started by an electric battery charger.

“I said, you know what, If I can see a glow in the sky when I go over some of the hills, you know, 10 kilometers out of Bow Island, if I could see a glow in the sky, my cabinet shop was gone,” Hiebert said.

“When I rolled up, when I come over those hills, I could see the glow above Bow Island, and I knew that I no longer had a cabinet shop.”

Hiebert is thankful that there were no employees onsite when the fire took place.

The only thing that was able to be salvage from the fire was some samples.
