A Lethbridge hockey player will get her chance to shine on a major stage.

On June 11, 2024, Dara Greig was drafted by Montreal in the fourth round of the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) Draft.

Greig grew up playing in Lethbridge, and spent a season playing for the Lethbridge Golden Hawks U15 AAA team. Greig first joined the University of Wisconsin women’s hockey team, helping them to a NCAA Championship in 2019. After two seasons there, Greig transferred to play for the Colgate University Raiders in Hamilton, New York.

The 5’7 forward has spent the past three seasons with the team and has been a consistent offensive threat. In 118 games with the Raiders, Greig has scored 57 goals and added 64 assists for 121 points.

Greig comes from a deep hockey background. Her father Mark has worked as an amateur scout for the Philadelphia Flyers since 2007, and played for the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Her brother Ridly Greig is currently an NHL player playing for the Ottawa Senators after being selected in the first round of the 2020 NHL Entry draft. Ridly won gold with Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships in 2022.

Finally, her sister Kyra played three seasons for the University of Lethbridge, and spent 2021-22 with the Lethbridge Eagles.

Dara Greig will join a Montreal team that finished second overall in the league standings this past season before falling to Boston in the first round.
