Fire ban back in effect for Lethbridge river valley

Jun 24, 2024 | 1:10 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – After just one week without a fire ban, it is now back on.

The City of Lethbridge says last week’s cooler, wetter weather has gone away for the time being.

“Despite the river valley’s lush green appearance, conditions remain critically dry. Current weather conditions, including high temperatures, low humidity and forecasted winds, significantly elevate the fire risk in the river valley,” reads a media release from the City of Lethbridge.

The ban impacts all open fires in the coulees within city limits.

Residents are asked to use extra caution, especially when it comes to disposing of smoking materials. They can easily ignite dry vegetation and cause uncontrolled fires.

More details on fire regulations in Lethbridge are on the City of Lethbridge website.
