LETHBRIDGE, AB – A local company has provided funding to expand the hours of an essential youth shelter.

Charlton & Hill Home Services, a local plumbing, heating, and air conditioning business, has made a sizeable donation to Wood’s Homes youth shelter in order to have the shelter be open on weekends.

Owner of Charlton & Hill Dan Freisen explained why that was important to him and his company:

Freisen further elaborated, saying that the initiative began when he attended the Woods Homes Gala. He spoke of an instance whee a Wood’s Homes employee left the building and saw at risk teens on the street.

A page for donations was set up, and the company set up the sides of one of their vans to attract people to donate. A QR code linking to a donation page beneath the Wood’s Homes logo can be seen driving around the city on a Charlton & Hill service vehicle.

Freisen says he has a donation goal, “We hope that together, we will be able to donate a minimum of $30,000 to Wood’s Homes youth shelter this year.”

Wood’s Homes reported that in the first six months of the partnership, the weekend hours supported by Charlton & Hill saw a combined 644 hours of daytime use and 122 visits by 23 young people.

The link to donate to the fund can be found at Charlton & Hill’s website.
