Coaldale celebrates $4.5 million grant for water infrastructure

COALDALE, AB – The Town of Coaldale will be able to continue meeting the water needs of its residents and businesses for many years to come.

The Government of Alberta has awarded the municipality a grant of $4.5 million for a new potable water reservoir and pump station.

Taber-Warner MLA Grant Hunter says, “Water is the new gold and is key to Southern Alberta for its continuing growth. Projects like this are essential as we must ensure that Albertans and their businesses are having their needs met.”

The town determined in 2021 that, in order to keep meeting daily water demands while ensuring allowances for fire protection, it would need to build a new reservoir and pump station sooner rather than later.

Mayor Jack Van Rijn thanked the provincial government for helping them to get this project off the ground.

“This grant funding is not just an investment in Coaldale’s water infrastructure; it is an investment in the health, safety, and the long-term prosperity of our community. Water is the lifeblood of our Town, essential for our daily lives, for expanding our business community, and for meeting projected demands,” says Van Rijn.

Construction is set to start in July and should be completed by late 2025.

Coaldale’s funding was one of 27 different rural infrastructure projects announced for the region by the Government of Alberta earlier this month.

Local initiatives total over $59 million.
