Lethbridge-West by-election to be called in 2024

LETHBRIDGE, AB – We will soon have a new MLA in Lethbridge-West.

Shannon Phillips announced her resignation from the role last month.

Her final day as the riding’s provincial representative was June 30, 2024. She was part-way through her third term in office.

Phillips’ resignation means that the people of Lethbridge-West are currently unrepresented in the legislature.

Premier Danielle Smith says in a statement to LNN that it is important that all Albertans are being served and represented by their local MLA.

“The residents of Lethbridge-West will have the opportunity to elect a new representative in an upcoming by-election to be called within the next 6 months in accordance with Elections law,” says Smith.

It is unclear at this time when exactly that might happen.

In the meantime, the premier has asked Nathan Neudorf, the member for Lethbridge-East, to assist constituents with any local needs and inquiries they might have.

For any matters that relate to advocacy, the Lethbridge-West constituency office says residents can send an inquiry to the Alberta NDP caucus communications team (malissa.dunphy@assembly.ab.ca). They will arrange for an MLA within the party to respond.

The constituency office will remain open and staff will be available.
