UPDATE: Lethbridge County man in critical condition following “serious collision” east of Granum

UPDATE: July 4, 2024 – 11:05 a.m.

Claresholm RCMP received reports of a two vehicle collision on Highway 519 between Highway 2 and Highway 23 near Granum.

The collision is under investigation, but police say the truck drove over the center line and struck the oncoming semi truck.

Upon arrival, emergency crews tended to the driver of a pick up truck, a 55-year-old Lethbridge County resident, who was taken by STARS to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle, a semi truck, was seen by EMS and released on scene. RCMP remained on scene for several hours investigating the collision.

GRANUM, AB – The RCMP is responding to a motor vehicle collision in southern Alberta that it says were serious.

The collision occurred late Wednesday morning, July 3, 2024 on Highway 519 between Highways 2 and 23.

Claresholm RCMP Sgt. Perry Pelletier says the driver of a semi-truck was uninjured while the lone occupant of a pickup truck was airlifted to hospital in Calgary.

He described pickup driver’s condition as “critical.”

There is no word on the cause of the collision or if the RCMP is considering charges.

Traffic in both directions are being detoured. There is limited local traffic access at this time.

The RCMP says it will provide updates when possible.
