COALDALE, AB – It appears that the majority of people in Coaldale are happy with life in the community.

That is according to the newly-released Town of Coaldale Community Survey. A total of 497 people responded to the survey, which was conducted between March 14 and April 3, 2024.

Approximately 62 per cent of respondents rated the overall quality of life in Coaldale as high, while another 18 per cent said it was very high. 95 per cent would recommend the town as a place to live.

When it comes to services provided by the municipality, residents said they were most happy with fire protection (74 per cent), waste collection (71 per cent), and parks, playground and green spaces (60 per cent).

The public prioritized future investments into repairing roads and sidewalks (27 per cent), repairing and expanding utility infrastructure (24 per cent), and expanding the outdoor pool (20 per cent).

However, 71 per cent would not support a tax increase to fund their top-ranked potential future capital project.

Just over one quarter (26 per cent) of survey respondents wanted to see more money spent on public works, including roads, sidewalks, snow removal, and lighting. 18 per cent felt more tax dollars should go towards policing and an equal percentage felt that way about fire and emergency services.

The most popular amenities in the community were the walking trails (22 per cent), parks and playgrounds (19 per cent), and the outdoor pool (13 per cent).

Their top preference for how they receive information from the Town of Coaldale was in form of a monthly newsletter included in their utility bill (28 per cent). Disseminating information through the town’s website or social media accounts were also popular choices (21 per cent each).

Within the next five years, nearly two-thirds (63 per cent) of respondents did not envision themselves moving away from Coaldale.

The full survey results can be found on the Town of Coaldale’s website.
