Taber-Warner MLA to promote Alberta’s economy in western U.S.

One of southern Alberta’s MLAs is set to travel to America to promote Alberta’s economic priorities.

Taber-Warner MLA Grant Hunter, along with Lac Ste. Anne-Parkland MLA Shane Getson, are travelling to Portland, Oregon for the Council of State Governments (CSG) West 77th annual meeting.

The cross-border meeting will provide a platform to discuss areas of importance to the province, such as energy, the environment, investment, agriculture, transportation and border policies.

CSG West is a regional, multilateral forum comprised of the following member states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. Alberta, British Columbia and the U.S. territories of Guam, American Samoa and the Northern Mariana Islands are associate members.

Following the CSG West meeting, Hunter will head to Sacramento, California and Boise, Idaho from July 13-19.

He will meet with government officials as part of his role as the parliamentary secretary for Agrifood Development. Hunter will discuss best practices on enhancing irrigation systems and promote Alberta as a world-class destination for agri-food investment.

“Alberta’s world-class irrigation network, diverse agriculture industry, business-friendly regulatory environment, and competitive business tax system make our province the premier destination for large-scale investments in agri-food processing,” says Hunter.

He continues, “This is an opportunity to promote Alberta’s advantages, share insights with our partners in the U.S., and reinforce vital links that help build our economies and feed the world.”

In 2023, Alberta’s exports to the U.S. totalled $113.9 billion USD, with $23.1 billion of that going to the CSG West region.
