Jul 8, 2024 | 10:11 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge says no fires are to be lit in the coulees.

Effective immediately, they have issued a ban on all open fires in the river valley within city limits.

“Conditions are critically dry due to humidity below 30 per cent and high temperatures expected throughout the week. These weather conditions significantly elevate the fire risk in the river valley,” reads an advisory from the City of Lethbridge.

Everyone is asked to use extra caution when it comes to disposing of smoking materials as they can easily ignite dry vegetation and cause uncontrolled fires.

The fire ban does not apply to backyard fires. Residents are still allows to have a fire in a backyard fire pit using clean, dry firewood.

More details on fire restrictions can be found on the City of Lethbridge website.
