Alberta Basketball Association kicks off Inaugural Club Championship at University of Lethbridge

Jul 19, 2024 | 1:30 PM

The University of Lethbridge is hosting the Alberta Basketball Association’s (ABA) Provincial Club Championships July 19-21.

This will be the ABA’s first Club Invitational Tournament and will have the top six basketball clubs in Alberta competing.

The clubs come from Calgary, Edmonton and Red Deer. Each club has a 13U boys team to participate in the tournament. Four of the six clubs also have a team in either the 15U Boys or 15U Girls division.

Dave Drabiuk, Executive Director of ABA, expressed why hosting this in Lethbridge is so good for the city. He said, “Sometimes the Lethbridge basketball communities felt like a bit of an afterthought compared to Edmonton and Calgary. So this was a great way to reaffirm to Lethbridge that we value Lethbridge and Southern Alberta by coming down here.”

The first game will start at 5:30 p.m. on July 19 in the Center Gym of the University of Lethbridge and will be free admission for everyone.

For updates on how the championship is going, be sure to visit the official ABA website for the schedule and scores.
