COALDALE, AB – A construction worker has died following an accident just east of Coaldale.

Details on what exactly happened are sparse, but it occurred at the construction site of the McCain Foods expansion on Wednesday, July 17, 2024.

The victim was a subcontractor, working for Fisher/Dawson Wallace Construction Ltd. The company offered its condolences and support to the family of the deceased.

McCain Foods North America Regional President Howard Snape told LNN that he is “deeply saddened” to learn about what happened.

“Our sincere condolences go out to their family and loved ones. We are providing support to anyone at the site who may need it, including counselling services. A safe work environment for everyone at our facilities is paramount,” says Snape.

Both Dawson Wallace Construction and Coaldale RCMP say investigations are ongoing, but until those investigations are complete, they will not be able to release any further information.

McCain affirmed that it is working closely with the contractor and local authorities and will cooperate in the investigations.

The food processor is currently undergoing a $600 million expansion that will add new production lines and renewable energy infrastructure to power the facility.
