City of Lethbridge launches new plan to recruit physicians

Jul 25, 2024 | 4:23 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge is renewing efforts to attract more physicians.

The City has an updated action plan, which came to be based off previous successes in marketing Lethbridge as a great place to practise and live.

According to officials from the City, the new plan aims to meet the needs of the city and region’s growing population while targeting several areas of specialty medicine. It will use marketing and advocacy as the main strategies for the plan.

The plan will begin immediately following a decision in May 2024 that saw $15,000 approved to come from the Council Contingency fund.

Councillor Belinda Crowson said, “We know there is still a need for family physicians but we’re also seeing a growing demand for physicians who specialize in anesthesiology, child and adolescent mental health and emergency medicine to name just a few.”

She continued, “This updated plan provides us strategic actions to move the needle forward in targeting these specialty physicians and meeting the needs of the community.”

The campaign will be completed and evaluated in early 2025. The City has launched a webpage for physicians to get more information about working in Lethbridge.
