COALDALE, AB – The Town of Coaldale will kick off its 2024 Summer Fest on August 9.

This year marks the third year for the festival, which the town describes as a celebration of and for the community. This year’s Summer Fest is aimed at celebrating sport and recreation.

Coaldale mayor Jack Van Rijn said, “This summer has been defined by celebrating sport and recreation in Coaldale. Earlier this month we hosted the 2024 Southern Alberta Summer Games which saw over 1700 participants from around southern Alberta descend upon Coaldale to compete in 20 different competitions.”

In addition to the Summer Games, the town also opened its brand new SHIFT Community Recreation Centre, and the Coaldale pool opened new waterslides.

Van Rijn continued, “For these reasons, it only seemed natural to build on the momentum and make sport and recreation the focal point of Coaldale’s 3rd annual Summer Fest, as well.”

Summer Fest will kick off on the afternoon of Friday, August 9, with a Pool Party Lūʻau, with mocktails and a DJ from 3:00-5:00 p.m. The festivities will continue through the evening, with a movie in Millenium Park and a local music performance.

On Saturday, the day begins with a Knights of Columbus pancake breakfast fundraiser from 8:00-10:00 a.m., and Coaldale’s Candy Parade at 11:00 a.m. This will be followed by live music at both the Civic Square Stage and the John Davidson St, and the Domesticated Divas Open Air Market.

Finally, at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, a non-denominational church service called “CowboyChurch” featuring music and stories will be held in the atrium of Civic Square.
