LETHBRIDGE, AB – Open Farm Days is returning to Alberta in 2024.

In Open Farm Days, farms across the province open up their properties to the public to give them a chance to experience what work is done on the farm. The event saw huge success in 2023, seeing over 130 farms participating and nearly $300,000 in direct farm sales. Tannis Baker from the Open Farm Days Executive Committee says 2024 is gearing up to be their biggest year yet.

In addition to host farms, 10 agricultural societies from Crossfield, Spruce Grove, Heritage, Coaldale, Grande Prairie, Smoky Lake, Stettler, Lac La Biche, Big Country and Rocky Mountain House are participating.

In the Lethbridge area, the list of participating businesses includes places that use and produce local agriculture like breweries and distilleries. Activities at the participating locations span from petting zoos to sunflower and corn mazes, to stables.

In the past few years, Open Farm Days has started implementing special themes to the yearly event. 2024 marks the Year of the Alpaca, which is in line with the United Nations designating 2024 as the International Year of Camelids. Baker says it is a good opportunity to recognize a small but important circle of Alberta agriculture.

Open Farm Days will take place on August 17 and 18.
