Medicine Hat residents facing weapon assault charges after gun fired

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Two Medicine Hat residents have received weapons assault charges after a gun was fired in the Tower Estates area earlier this month.

The Medicine Hat Police Service (MHPS) says several individuals arrived at a residence early on August 3 following an ongoing dispute between two men.

As the confrontation escalated, one of the men allegedly discharged a handgun and wounded a visitor.

Kris Simons, 36, was charged with assault with a weapon, possession of controlled substances and bail violations.

Brent Heath, 36, faces charges of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, unlawful possession of a firearm and other related firearms offenses.

Both individuals remain in custody following judicial hearings.

The police service is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact major crimes investigators at 403-529-8481.
