Pet killed, firefighter injured in north Lethbridge fire

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Emergency crews are continuing to investigate a fire at a home on the north side.

Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services (LFES) says members were called to a house on the 1600 block of 3 Avenue North at approximately 11:05 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2024.

One neighbour had phoned 911 while another alerted the family inside.

Upon the arrival of firefighters, the rear garage was completely engulfed in flames and the fire had also caused significant damage to the home.

The blaze was put out quickly with one firefighter suffering minor injuries during their efforts.

A family pet was found deceased inside the home.

The cause and origin of the fire are still under investigation. Damages are estimated at approximately $500,000.
