Alberta releases update to Drought Response Plan
The province has released an update on its 2024 Drought Response Plan.
The update to the plan classifies drought stages by river basin, and aims to provide information so Albertans, communities, farmers, ranchers and businesses get the support they need.
The plan assigns each region a ranking from Stage 0 (no drought conditions) to Stage 4 (significant drought conditions in multiple water management areas). The Oldman and Milk River basins in southern Alberta remain at a Stage 4 ranking due to dry conditions in the area.
Other basins have been downgraded to Stage 0, 1, 2 or 3 across the province, after the original plan started with every basin at a Stage 4.
