Lethbridge reminds residents to properly dispose of hazardous materials

Aug 27, 2024 | 11:56 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – After several incidents of people disposing of bear spray cans in residential blue carts, the City of Lethbridge is reminding residents of the proper protocol when it comes to the disposal of hazardous materials.

Hazardous materials include propane tanks, bear spray and batteries, meaning they don’t belong in your blue, green or black carts.

City staff at the Waste and Recycling Centre had one of the cans rupture and all staff had to evacuate the recycling facility. It was also said that some staff continue to feel the effects of the spray.

To dispose properly, the city is asking that you visit the Waste and Recycling Centre in your designated area.

To find your designated area, residents of Lethbridge can contact 311. For more information on putting your waste in the right place, you can visit the designated web page for it.
