Lethbridge mayor to honour local leaders in the arts

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Mayor’s Luncheon for Business and the Arts returns next month.

The event celebrates the relationship between the arts community, local businesses and civic government.

Lethbridge mayor Blaine Hyggen will present a series of awards to those who have significantly contributed to the vibrance of the arts.

“We gather to celebrate art’s transformative power in our community, but more importantly to recognize the tremendous contributions of so many local artists and the [Allied Arts Council] itself,” says Hyggen. “Together, we paint a vibrant future. Thank you for supporting the arts!”

The awards that will be presented include:

  • Joan Waterfield Memorial Award: Awarded to an individual recognized by their peers for advancing and enhancing the arts in Lethbridge. Award sponsored by Brent Olesky, Royal LePage.
    • 2024 Recipient: Kathy Matkin-Clapton
  • AACE Awards: Celebrating the contributions of an individual, business, and service organization that has each played a significant role in supporting the arts in our community.
    • AACE Individual Recipient: Teri Petz
    • AACE Business Recipient: Analog Books
    • AACE Service Organization: BIPOC Foundation
  • Aspiring Artist Award: Recognizes a young artist (Grades 9–12) in the Lethbridge region who is actively advancing and enhancing the arts. This award includes a $1,000 prize to support and encourage their artistic endeavors.
    • Aspiring Artist Recipient: Kennedy Chinn
  • Young Artist Award: Honors an emerging artist in the Lethbridge region working to advance and enhance the arts. This award also includes a $1,000 prize to support and encourage their artistic growth.
    • Young Artist Recipients: Kade Carter & Russell Milder

The Mayor’s Luncheon for Business and the Arts will be presented on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. Tickets are available on showpass.com and at artslethbridge.org
