Lethbridge golfers to compete for national title

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A group of local golfers now have an opportunity to win a major national championship.

Brock Virtue, Keirstin Smith, Jenna McDonald, Gray McDonald and PGA Pro Zac Weiss beat 24 other teams at the Alberta South RBC PGA Scramble Regional Final on September 3, 2024.

The event took place at Stewart Creek Golf & Country Club in Canmore.

The local group, representing the Lethbridge Country Club, now gear up to compete in the RBC PGA Scramble National in Cabot Links Golf Course in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

“It’s all we have been able to think about for the last few days,” said Virtue. “We are so fired up to be there and have the opportunity to play those amazing courses, taste the local food and make new friends. We are so lucky to get to do this and are going to enjoy every moment of it.”

Virtue says his team has been has known each other for quite some time and they thought it would be fun to enter the competition together.

Now in its ninth year, the RBC PGA Scramble is the largest grassroots amateur golf program in Canada. This year, participants competed across 180 local qualifiers from coast-to-coast.

The national championship gets underway October 5-9, 2024.
