LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge is recognizing Reconciliation Week.

This year’s official opening ceremonies were held outside City Hall at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 23, with a traditional blessing, greetings, and dances from Indigenous Elders and officials.

A teepee was put up on the front lawn in front of City Hall, where a pipe ceremony was held before the event.

Echo Nowak, Indigenous Relations Specialist with the City of Lethbridge says this year, the City is focusing on how to be an ally to Indigenous Peoples.

Following the opening ceremonies, there are multiple events held throughout the city all week.

These include the Reconciliation Awards night also held on Monday, the Lethbridge Public Library’s Orange Shirt Walk on September 29, and a Pow Wow at the Lethbridge & District Exhibition on Saturday, September 28.

Nowak adds that for those who can not make it out to any events, there is plenty of information on the City’s social pages on how to get involved.
