Turkey barn burns down in Vulcan County

A fire in Vulcan County has caused the destruction of a turkey barn.

Vulcan County Emergency Services say they received a call at 2:28 a.m. on Wednesday, September 25, reporting that a barn was on fire.

Crews arrived on scene but were unable to save the structure, as the fire had already engulfed it. 9,000 two-week old turkey chicks were inside and died.

Doug Headrick, regional fire chief for Vulcan Countysays it took crews several hours to extinguish he fire, but they stopped the flames from spreading to nearby buildings. Nobody was hurt in the firefighting efforts.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
