Canyon Church Camp fundraiser hosts George Canyon concert

Oct 2, 2024 | 11:09 AM

On October 3, in support of the Canyon Church Camp fundraiser, George Canyon will perform a solo acoustic concert at Southminster United Church in Lethbridge.

All proceeds will go towards the Canyon Church Camp’s rebuilding. Around seven years ago, the Camp – located in Waterton’s National Parks – was destroyed by a wildfire.

More than half of its buildings were burned down, and they are now looking to rebuild with a bit of help from fundraising. They need two million dollars and are around 200 thousand short of meeting their goal right now.

After receiving the required licensing and permissions from Parks Canada, they were officially allowed to begin rebuilding. However, to complete the rebuild, they are putting on a Fundraising Concert with country singer George Canyon as the performer.

George Canyon, who hails from Nova Scotia but now lives in Calgary, has been a singer for decades. He is also the National Anthem Singer for the Calgary Flames and is currently on tour until November 11, 2024.

Christina Whittmire, president of the Canyon Church Camp Board of Directors, says, “I would like to thank everyone for their support so far in our rebuild. We’ve had quite a few different fundraisers and stuff and different community members that have come forward to support us. Our camp family really appreciates it and we look forward to opening and being able to show the facility to everyone.”

Tickets for the event are $55 and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at Southminster Church. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets as well as more details can be found here.
