Taber Police charge man with drug trafficking and weapons offences

On September 28, 2024, the Taber Police Service (TPS) conducted a traffic stop on a suspected impaired driver.

Officers claim the man failed a breathalyzer test and his car was searched.

Police say they discovered 89 grams of cocaine, which is estimated to be worth over $2,700. In addition to that, he was also allegedly in possession of alcohol, drug paraphernalia and bear spray.

Alazar Mekonen Tadesse, 41, of Calgary, was issued an Immediate Roadside Sanction, had his licence suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days, which will require a $1,200 administrative fee.

His charges are as follows:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of proceeds of crime
  • Obstruction
  • Personation
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public
  • Possession of a weapon contrary to an order X3
  • Driving while prohibited
  • Other traffic offences.

Following a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, Tadesse was put into custody.

Details of his court appearance on October 1, 2024, are to come.
