COALDALE, AB – The Government of Alberta is recognizing two locals for their contributions to their communities.

The winners of the Alberta Immigrant Impact Awards (formerly known as the Alberta Newcomer Recognition Awards) have been announced.

The awards honour those who have enriched the province through volunteer activities, leadership, innovation, business, or academic or professional achievements.

Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism Muhammad Yaseen presented the 35 recipients at a recent gala.

“My heartfelt congratulations to each of the award nominees and recipients. I applaud your dedication and your passion to bettering the province and supporting your fellow Albertans. Your actions are an inspiration to all, and your efforts to better our communities are recognized and appreciated,” says Yaseen.

Although the vast majority of the award winners live in the Calgary and Edmonton areas, two hail from rural areas in the southern region.

Dothlyn McFarlane and Sabine Nasse have each received Small Community Enhancement Awards.

McFarlane is the Associate Director of the Chinook Arch Regional Library System and was formerly the Head Librarian at the Coaldale Public Library.

She has degrees in librarianship and counselling, and continues to enhance library services in the region.

Nasse is the finance manager at the Society of Brooks Community Adult Learning Council.

The province says, with her background in finance and administration, she has played a vital part in recreation facility upgrades, support for local seniors, healthcare and businesses.

The full list of award recipients can be read on the Government of Alberta website.
