Hurricanes trade Meneghin to Tigers

Oct 5, 2024 | 12:24 PM

The Lethbridge Hurricanes have made a big trade with their biggest rivals.

On Saturday, October 5, 2024, the Hurricanes sent goaltender Harrison Meneghin to the Medicine Hat Tigers in exchange for forward Shane Smith.

Meneghin has been an excellent piece in net for the Hurricanes ever since joining the team for the 2022-23 season. The 20 year old was named to the WHL Central Division First All-Star team for his stellar 2023-24 campaign, and was named the Central Division goaltender of the year.

Meneghin’s 2.59 goals against average (GAA) was good for sixth in the WHL last season, while his .919 save percentage placed him in second. He ended up being drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the seventh round of the 2024 NHL Draft.

In Smith, the Hurricanes get a 6’2 forward coming off a season where he scored 29 goals and 22 assists for 51 points. The 2005-born forward also has two points in three games so far this season.

The two teams will play for the first time this season on November 6 in Lethbridge.
