Piikani Nation RCMP lay drug & weapon possession charges

BROCKET, AB – A person in southern Alberta faces nine charges.

At approximately 9:30 a.m. on Monday, October 7, 2024, the Piikani Nation RCMP says it conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Brocket townsite.

The driver of the vehicle reportedly had a suspended license and was on conditions that he not be in contact with a particular passenger.

Officers searched the vehicle and claimed to have found 0.5 ounces of suspected fentanyl and 3.6 grams of suspected methamphetamine.

A pair of nunchucks were also allegedly found in the vehicle, which is a prohibited weapon in Canada. The driver is currently barred from possessing any weapons.

Garon Plaited Hair, 44, of no fixed address, is charged with two counts each of failing to comply with a release order and disobeying a court order.

He also faces a variety of possession-related counts, including a weapon for a dangerous purpose, a prohibited weapon, controlled substances for fentanyl and meth, as well as one count of driving while prohibited.

Plaited hair has been remanded into custody following a bail hearing.
