Lockdowns at south Lethbridge schools lifted

Oct 10, 2024 | 11:54 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) says there was determined to be no threat at a group of south side schools.

At approximately 9:40 a.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2024, police received a weapons complaint in the area outside of Lethbridge Collegiate Institute and Catholic Central High School.

As a precaution, those two schools, along with the nearby St. Francis Junior High School, Ecole St. Mary School, and Trinity Learning School were advised to lock their doors to the public and go into lockdown.

Police officers attended and placed four people into custody. They say that the weapon turned out to be a toy or replica gun.

At no time was the toy gun used to threaten anybody at the nearby schools.

The lockdowns have been lifted and classes have resumed.

LPS says they are continuing to investigate.
