Piikani Nation RCMP arrest two for drug and weapons offences

Two people are facing drug charges in Brocket.

On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, Piikani Nation RCMP were alerted by Piikani Security of a vehicle that had lost one of its wheels and drove into the ditch on Highway 3 near Brocket.

Upon arrival, RCMP discovered that both occupants of the vehicle had outstanding warrants and they were placed under arrest. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle after allegedly seeing drug paraphernalia in plain view.

The search resulted in the discovery of the following:

  • 10 grams of suspected methamphetamine
  • 6.5 grams of suspected fentanyl
  • 6 tablets of oxycodone
  • $2740 CAD
  • Drug packaging, a firearm, and suspected stolen property

Police also found a pump-action rifle that had been modified with a pistol grip and shortened barrel inside the vehicle.

Asia Wilson, 22, and John Garszczal, 34, were charged with the following:

  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (x3)
  • Possession of Items used in the Trafficking of a Controlled Substance
  • Possession of Proceeds of Crime
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Careless Use of a Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited Firearm

Garszczal was also charged with Failing to Comply with an Undertaking and Possession of a Firearm while Prohibited.

Both remain in custody ahead of a court date on October 29.
