Farmers Almanac predicts colder than normal winter in Alberta

Well, there’s good news and bad news.

According to the 2024-25 Farmers Almanac winter weather forecast, this winter will be colder than normal throughout the prairies.

They predict it will be the coldest in early and late December followed by early and late January, and late February.

Farmers Almanac also suggests precipitation and snowfall will be above normal throughout the region.

A heavy snowfall is expected as early as mid-November but will be snowiest late December, early January, mid-February, and early March.

The good news is according to the 60 day forecast for the Prairies, residents won’t have to prepare for too cold of temperatures quite yet.

Through November, although there may be plenty of precipitation, temperatures are expected to above normal.

Overall, the average temperature will be 0 C which is three degrees above average and will see 20 millimetres of precipitation, 5 mm more than normal.

In the first week, snow showers are expected in the east and rain in the west with more lower temperatures.

Through the week of Nov. 8-16, it will be very warm and sunny. However, snowy and chilly weather is expected by mid-November. And by months end, it will be sunny once again.
