LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes asserted their dominance on a road trip this past weekend, winning all three of their games.

Friday, November 8 vs. Moose Jaw Warriors

They kicked off the trip on Friday, November 8, 2024 with a game in Moose Jaw against the Warriors.

The Hurricanes kicked off the scoring almost immediately with a goal 27 seconds into the game from Hayden Pakkala, his second of the season. Near the end of the frame, the Hurricanes made it 2-0 off the stick of Logan Wormald, extending his team lead in goals up to 10.

In the second period, the Warriors managed to tally a pair of powerplay goals from Brayden Yager and Owen Berge to bring the score to a 2-2 tie heading into the final 20 minutes.

That lead would not last long, as the Hurricanes exploded for a scoring frenzy in the third, including three goals in the first 1:43 from Shane Smith, Brayden Edwards and Noah Chadwick. Edwards and Smith would score again in the third, along with a third goal from the Warriors, to cement the team’s 7-3 win.

Tristen Doyle, who had four assists, was named first star of the game, while Shane Smith was given second star. Brayden Yager got third star honours.

Sunday, November 10 vs. Regina Pats

Following the victory over Moose Jaw, the Hurricanes continued east on the Trans-Canada Highway to take on the Regina Pats on Sunday.

Like on Friday, the Hurricanes started the scoring early in the first period, with Miguel Marques netting his eighth goal of the season 4:13 in. Logan Wormald and Tristen Doyle contributed the assists on the goal.

Just under eight minutes in, Edwards continued his point streak with his 10th goal of the season from Marques and Wormald to make it 2-0. Regina would add their own goal in the final two minutes of the frame.

After the second period and the first half of the third yielded no scoring despite plenty of powerplay opportunities for both sides, the Hurricanes got back on the board on the powerplay with a goal from Wormald, assisted by Logan McCutcheon and Marques.

Pats forward Tanner Howe added his own goal just under a minute later to make it 3-2, but the Hurricanes held on for a 3-2 victory.

Marques and Wormald were given first and third star respectively after each of them had a goal and two assists. Pats goalie Kelton Pyne was named second star.

Monday, November 11 vs. Brandon Wheat Kings

On Monday, the Hurricanes traveled further east to Brandon, Manitoba to take on the Wheat Kings.

In the game, the Hurricanes consistently filled the scoresheet, registering a goal in each period.

In the first period, Logan Wormald scored his 12th goal of the season 4:47 in from Brayden Edwards and Will Sharpe. The goal would hold up as the eventual game winner.

Hurricanes captain Noah Chadwick added his own goal in the second period from Kash Andresen, while in the third period, Marques scored in the Wheat Kings’ empty net to finish the game at 3-0.

Aside from the goal scoring, the brightest star in the game was Hurricanes goaltender Koen Cleaver. The 17-year-old stopped all 35 shots he faced, including 17 shots in the third period. It was Cleaver’s first shutout of the season, and the first of his WHL career.

For his performance, Cleaver was given first star of the game, Wheat Kings goaltender Carson Bjarnason was the second star, and Chadwick got third star honours.

The three wins over the weekend gave the Hurricanes a five-point cushion over the Medicine Hat Tigers for first place in the Central Division.

They will look to continue their winning streak on Saturday, November 16 when they host the Victoria Royals at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
