North Lethbridge drug house shut down

LETHBRIDGE, AB – This is the third time in just one year that a “problem” property has been closed down by the Lethbridge Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) Unit.

The Alberta Sheriffs have obtained a court order to close the property at 94 Eagle Road North, effective at 10:00 a.m. on November 19, 2024.

The property has been boarded up, fenced and the locks have been changed.

SCAN Inspector Michael Dirkson says they have a two-year community safety order, which includes a 90 order to close the property entirely.

“When the owner gets the property back in 90 days, this property is still under a community safety order. What that allows us to do is revisit the property, restart an investigation if we feel the need to, and just get back in court a little quicker than we would with a brand new file,” says Dirkson.

He explains that, since January 2021, the property has been linked to more than 80 calls to police, most of which had to do with drug-related activities.

“Our hope is that it breaks that cycle of drug activity that was occurring here, the violence that stems from this property,” says Dirkson. “It also gives this community a relief from having to deal with this property for upwards of four years and the police presence that it brought into this neighbourhood.”

This is the third problem property that has been closed since the Lethbridge SCAN Unit was established one year ago and the fifth in southern Alberta.

Alberta Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services Mike Ellis says the Unit continues to turn in success after success in their pursuit and safer streets and neighbourhoods.

“I want to say thank you to SCAN and all our law enforcement partners who work tirelessly every day to keep our communities safe. I encourage all Albertans to continue reporting suspicious activity in their area,” says Ellis.

The community safety order will be in effect until November 19, 2026.

Suspicious properties can be reported by phoning SCAN at 1-866-960-7226 or by using the online form here.
