LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) has laid charges in connection to an assault from two months ago.

Just after 1:00 p.m. on September 8, 2024, police and EMS were called to the 2500 block of 13 Street North.

A 16-year-old boy was walking in the area when he was confronted by a group that allegedly assaulted him with weapons, including a baton. He was reportedly threatened with what LPS said appeared to be a handgun.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Through their investigation, police say they learned that the victim was the target of a group attack that was motivated by a previous, unrelated incident.

Three suspects were arrested on November 13 and a fourth was apprehended on November 20.

Officers searched a home on the north side and claimed to have seized a BB gun and clothing that was consistent with what was worn by one of the suspects during the assault.

Two 16-year-old boys, one 17-year-old boy and one 15-year-old boy, all of Lethbridge, are each charged with: aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, pointing a firearm, possession of an offensive weapon dangerous to the public and use of a firearm while committing an offence.

The 16-year-old suspect remains in custody and is awaiting a bail hearing.

The others have been released with conditions.

The 15- and 17-year-old are scheduled to appear in youth court on December 11 while the remaining 16-year-old is scheduled for a court appearance on November 27.

Due to provisions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the suspects cannot be named.
