Nov 22, 2024 | 7:23 AM

Officials with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) say a long period of snowfall with total amounts of 20 to 35 cm is expected in the city of Lethbridge and surrounding areas.

Meteorologists say snowfall will begin in southern Alberta Friday morning, spreading northward through the day. Snowfall intensity is expected to vary through the day and evening, with general amounts of 5 to 10 cm anticipated by Saturday morning.

ECCC says snowfall will intensify early Saturday morning, with another 10 to 25 cm anticipated by Saturday evening but the snowfall is expected to ease and gradually end overnight into Sunday morning.

Officials remind motorists that visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow and surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

Residents are encouraged ro consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected.
