Kelowna beats out Lethbridge, Medicine Hat to host 2026 Memorial Cup

Nov 27, 2024 | 1:31 PM

The Kelowna Rockets have been selected to host the 2026 Memorial Cup.

Lethbridge was one of the five teams bidding to host Canada’s premier junior hockey tournament, alongside Kelowna, Medicine Hat, Brandon and Spokane.

Kelowna was awarded the Memorial Cup in 2020, but that was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They also hosted in 2004, winning on home ice.

Lethbridge and Medicine Hat have never hosted the Memorial Cup, while Brandon and Spokane have each hosted once.

Lethbridge City Council voted on July 23, 2024, to provide $1.25 million and a letter of support to the Sport Tourism Advisory Committee in their bid. With the bid being unsuccessful, none of the $1.25 million will be paid.

The tournament will take place in May 2026.
