Traveller Plaited Hair projected winner of Blood Tribe chief election

STANDOFF, AB – The people of the Blood Tribe have chosen their new chief and council.

The southern Alberta First Nation held its elections over the last several days with the general voting on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

A total of 10 people ran for chief while a stacked council election had 59 candidates.

Traveller Plaited Hair came out on top in the race for chief, securing an estimated 771 out of 3,446 votes (22.37%).

The 12 who are projected to join council are:

  • Piinaakoyim Buckskin Tailfeathers – 1,054 (incumbent)
  • Maria Bernadette Rusell – 965
  • Clarence Roy Black Water – 952 (incumbent)
  • Patrick Black Plume – 900
  • John Jared Little Bear – 731
  • Elliot Neil Fox – 722
  • Kirby Dean Many Fingers – 714
  • Dorothy Theresa First Rider – 699 (incumbent)
  • Beth Ann Beatrice Daychief – 627
  • Marcel Patrick Weasel Head – 614 (incumbent)
  • Franklyn White Quills – 595
  • Kyla Deann Crow Spreads His Wings – 580
